HARPAPER is the Nearly Normal tribute to Charley Harper.
Charley Harper was a American modernist graphic artist, best known for his highly stylised wildlife prints, posters and book illustration. During his career, Charley Harper illustrated numerous books, notably The Golden Book of Biology. Charley Harper died on Sunday, June 10, 2007 at age 84.
Inspired by his optimistic view of nature Nearly Normal created 12 magnificent paper sculptures that interpretates Haper’s works, bringing to life the most exceptional paper fauna to honour the memory of one of the most influential and important “minimal realism” artist.
Harpaper workshop
Through paper collage we will encourage children and adults to look carefully to the natural world, and using a variety of ready cut colourful paper shapes, to create their own paper fauna. We will give them clues about how to look at their work and how to develop their own tastes and judgements with focus on minimal aesthetic awareness in relation to colour, texture, pattern, shape and structure.
Nearly Normal will present Harpaper sculptures and show some techniques to create a fabulous paper art. If you are a nature observer and love drawing, sticking, folding and cutting out, then this workshop is for you. Imagine you creating your own native faune in paper. Which animal would you choose and could you recreate your minimal style natural world?
